Students act out The Great Gatsby, Jerry Springer style

A junior A.P. English class read The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. After finishing the book students were assigned a project by english teacher Debra Isensee to perform an episode of the Jerry Springer Show with the characters from the novel. The Jerry Springer Show is a talk show that invites in people to discuss their personal problems.  Students dressed up and acted as their characters.

Alumni talk to junior class about preparing for college

Last year’s senior class members came back to talk to the junior class about the college experience.  They talked about applying to college and when juniors should start thinking about the application process, and how to choose the right college.

Seventh grade teaching assistant Kimberly Henry put on a gingerbread making club for middle school students before winter break.

NAHS members prepare artwork for NAHS induction ceremony

The National Art Honors Society prepared for the induction ceremony that was held during the high schools Winter Chorus and Band concert. Each NAHS member invitee was required to submit a piece of art to be admitted to the group. THe theme of the work was “The Artist Inside.”

High school library hosts annual book fair

The annual book fair took place in the MERHS library from December 5th through December 9th. The Book Shop Of Beverly Farms displayed a great selection of books for the entire school population.  Students and staff could view the display and purchase books from 7:30am to 3:00pm.

Buckeye International and custodians refurbish MERHS gym floor (video included)

Over Thanksgiving break the gym floor was recoated. The Buckeye Cleaning Center in Boston sent supplies and a representative to help with the school’s custodians with the process. The timelapse video below was taken from the security camera footage.

Middle school language teacher starts crocheting club

Foreign Language teacher Doris-Ann Vosseler started a middle school club that teaches kids how to crochet. Members of the club were all new to crocheting and Vosseler taught the basic steps.

School tries to reduce paper waste

The Manchester Essex High School and Middle School are determined to eliminate waste and help save the environment. Throughout the school there are different features all focused on reducing the schools paper waste. Such features include recycling bins and printers that help with double sided printing.
