Girls alpine ski team defeats Austin Prep

Manchester-Essex’s girl’s alpine race team competed January 13th against Austin Prep, which resulted in a 76-59 victory. All races take place at Bradford ski hill where the girls race Mondays and Wednesdays.

Seventh graders form mass production assembly line

Seventh graders in engineering class participate in a lab regarding the manufacturing process. Engineering teacher John Banister-Marx chose this lab to demonstrate to the class how an assembly line functions.

Green Team learns about wind power

The Green Team went to an assembly regarding wind power and solar energy before vacation. Former Manchester Essex graduate Andrew Brousseau and wind turbine expert Bill Vachon present individually on alternative energy sources and persuade the team to continue working towards a better world for upcoming generations.

High school performs annual winter concert

MERHS has their annual Winter Concert performed at night for the public. There was also an in-school concert the Friday before break for the high school to watch if they were unable to attend the night concert the previous week. Both the band and the chorus and SoundWaves performed. This was a nice transition into the holidays as the chorus and SoundWaves performed holiday songs.

MERSD collects toys for Pathways

Manchester Essex Regional School District has their annual toy drive, collecting hundreds of toys for Pathways for Children. The toys are to be delivered Friday to the organization.

Students explore Manchester and its history

History teachers Jen Coleman and Abigail Donnelly lead a backyard history workshop around Manchester for MERHS’s Workshop Wednesday. Coleman and Donnelly taught the students the basic history of Manchester, traveling to cemeteries and historical centers to further analyze and learn about Manchester back in the day.

MERSD entertains audience with annual “Night of Stars”

The Spaulding Education Fund hosts their 5th annual “Night of Stars” talent show as a fundraiser to benefit MERSD. All donations and fundraisers provide grants that boost student achievement in core subjects such as reading, science, foreign languages, music art, physical education, math and writing within the Manchester Essex School District.

Advisory Discusses Stress

In the most recent advisory meeting, groups gathered together to discuss stress, ways to alleviate it, and what makes us students stressed out. Teachers showed students a video on how other people use activities to relieve stress, and talked a lot about statistics referring to how stress can affect your life.

Master bagpiper Elliott Smith visits sixth and seventh grade music classes to play. He taught them history regarding bagpipes and played for them.

Art Class Sketches Skeletons for Halloween

Art teacher Marion Powers teaches the class how to use charcoal to draw skeletons and other various bones placed throughout the classroom. Powers thought this project was appropriate for the Halloween season.
