2 MERHS STUDENTS MAKE ALL-STATE CHORUS

Tucker Evans (’15) and Sara Rhuda (’16) both made the 2015 All-State Chorus after receiving recommendations to audition while at Northeast Senior Districts.  This will be Evans’ fourth year in a row and Rhuda got in after her first time auditioning for All-States.  Evans and Rhuda will be representing Manchester-Essex Regional High School in a three-day festival in Boston which concludes with the All-State Chorus Concert at Symphony Hall on March 21st.

Five students accepted to Northeast Senior District Music Festival

Sr. Districts 11-2014 002

Five students from MERHS  accepted to the 2015 Northeast Senior District Music Festival this year.  Last Saturday, November 15th nine students from band and chorus auditioned for the Northeast Senior Districts.  Representing MERHS from the Band is Alexi Goldsmith-Solomon who will be first chair snare drum player in the Festival Orchestra.   Chorus members Jenny Duff, Tucker Evans, Sara Rhuda and Joshua Ward will be representing MERHS in the Northeast Districts Festival Chorus. 

 Tucker Evans, Alexi Goldsmith-Solomon and Sara Rhuda also received All-State recommendations and will be auditioning for All-States in January.

AWARDS: 2 National Merit Finalists and 11 Commended Scholars

MERHS had two National Merit Finalist, Tucker Evans and Ben Bichet.  MERHS had eleven Commended Students in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program. The Commended Students are:  Delaney Byrne, Patrick Byrne, Sam Creighton, Lila Etter, Katie Furber, Jack Hay, Ariana Jackson, Will Kiley (absent), Devon Musgrave-Johnson, Hannah Riordan and Natasha Statz-Geary About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise.  Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the competition by taking the 2013 PSAT.  Evans and Bichet will continue on in the competition.

Parents learn about classes at the high school

Parents follow their children’s schedules to go over the syllabi of each class with teachers.  Parent Night is an annual event held each September, and is a way for parents to meet teachers.
Seniors Lila Etter, Bailey Graves, and Louisa Spofford hand out schedules to parents that show them where they should go to meet their children’s teachers. HS girls lacrosse holds banquet

On June 11th, the junior varsity and varsity girls’ lacrosse teams met in the auditorium of the high school to celebrate their seasons at the annual banquet. At the banquet, awards were given to both junior varsity and varsity players.

GALLERY: High school holds annual award ceremony

On Thursday June 5th, the high school students, faculty, and the awardee’s parents attended the annual academic and athletic awards. Many students were awarded for their efforts in the classroom and on the field. Special guests, such as Manchester and Essex selectmen, also attended the ceremony in order to give awards to students on behalf of different local organizations. The high school’s a Capella group, The SoundWaves, performed as well.

NHS and NAHS induct new members

On Tuesday, May 27th, the National Honor Society and the National Art Honors Society held induction ceremonies for new members.  The two groups decided to have a combined induction ceremony for the first time in the school’s history.

Music students recognized for outstanding achievement

Manchester-Essex High School students Lindsey Duff and Tucker Evans were accepted to All-States in Chorus. Following the Massachusetts Music Educators Association’s All-State Music Festival auditions on Saturday January, 25th, Senior Lindsey Duff and Junior Tucker Evans were accepted to the All-State Festival Chorus as a soprano and bass, respectively. This is Tucker’s third year in a row for making All-States and Lindsey’s second year. Both Lindsey and tucker are members of the MERHS Chorus and the SoundWaves. They worked very hard, were well-prepared for their All-State audition and are both very talented singers and overall musicians. They will be staying at the Seaport Hotel in Boston from March 20-22, will rehearse at the World Trade Center and will be representing Manchester-Essex in the All-State Festival Concert at Boston Symphony Hall on March 22, 2014. The Al-State Chorus is an exceptional ensemble comprised of 200-250 of our finest young musicians in MA. Nine Manchester-Essex Regional Middle/High School students selected to participate in the 2014 Massachusetts Northeastern District Junior Music Festival. Students from more than 95 public and private schools auditioned on January 18th. This prestigious music event is offered by the MMEA (Massachusetts Music Educators Association) as an enrichment opportunity providing a musical experience to talented young musicians. Students are selected to perform in the District Festival Concert Band, Orchestra, Girls Chorus or Boys Chorus. They rehearse with a guest conductor and then perform in the Festival Concert held at the Lowell Auditorium on March 15th.
