DECA sponsors Highlighter Dance

DJ BeeJay Kendall from Total Control Entertainment brought a setup of black lights to create a wonderful highlighter atmosphere. Students were encouraged to wear bright clothing and use highlighters to enhance their wardrobe. DECA handed out Dew Tour merchandise, as they are promoting the well respected ski/snowboard competition. The DEW Tour will be held January 19-22 at Killington Mountain Resort.

DECA Attends District Competition

On January 5th, 2012, Dean Martino and his DECA students boarded a bus and traveled to Crowne Plaza North Shore Hotel in Danvers, MA for their district competition. Overall 39 DECA students qualified for SCDC (State Career Development Conference).

Varsity Girls Basketball not powerful enough to defeat Royals

On Friday December 16, 2011, the Manchester Essex Varsity Girls Basketball team had its 2nd home game of the 2011-2012 season. The Georgetown Lady Royals traveled to the Hornet’s Nest for a 6:30pm tip off under head coach Dave Tucker. The Royals are 2-1 in the young season while the Hornets are 0-2. Both teams play in MA Division 4 North (Cape Ann League Small). The Cape Ann League is one of the toughest leagues in Massachusetts  to play in.

Students meet for the first National Art Honors Society meeting of the year

Students who have participated in specific art classes were selected by high school art teacher Caroline Epp to become a part of the National Art Honors Society. The society meets regularly and participates in a number of activities to promote art throughout the community. Members are required to complete a minimum of seven to ten art related community serves hours. On Wednesday, December 7th and Thursday, December 8th, 2011 the first meetings were held at seven AM in one of the schools art rooms. There will be a short induction ceremony during the chorus and band winter concert, December 15, 2011 to introduce the new members.

High school library hosts annual book fair

The annual book fair took place in the MERHS library from December 5th through December 9th. The Book Shop Of Beverly Farms displayed a great selection of books for the entire school population.  Students and staff could view the display and purchase books from 7:30am to 3:00pm.

Swim team kicks off their season with first practice of the year

The Manchester Essex/ Rockport combined swim team began their 2011-2012 season Monday November 28. The swimmers practice at the Gordon College athletic center where they meet both early before school, and late in the afternoon.

MERSD holds successful toy drive for HAWC

From December 1st to December 9th, Manchester Essex Middle and High School held a toy drive for the organization HAWC.  Helping Abused Women and Children (HAWC) is an organization that takes abused women and children into safety and cares for them as they go through tough times.  The school holds this event every year, hoping to give many toys to the children who really need them.

Middle School Spanish class read stories to second grade students

On December 1st, the seventh grade of Manchester-Essex Middle School went to the elementary school to present their Spanish stories to the second grade.

MERSD Ski Team practices on turf field for preseason

The Manchester-Essex Varsity Ski Team begins their preseason flat dry land practice. Practice started this week in preparation for practice and races at Bradford Mountain in Haverhill MA.
