Memorial Day Assembly Honors Fallen Soldiers

On Friday May 23, 2014, the Manchester Essex Middle and High school students gathered in the gymnasium for a Memorial Day assembly

Assistant Principal Paul Murphy spoke at the beginning of the assembly to introduce the veterans. The Veterans that were attending were, Al Secker, Brian Sullivan, June Sullivan, George Nickless, Jack Buckley, and Bruce Hersey. Veteran Brian Sullivan, a retired commander of the U.S. Navy Reserve, spoke to the crowd about his experiences while being a serviceman. Sullivan explained the lyrics of “Taps” during his speech, which is sounded during different ceremonies such as funerals and military gatherings.
