On the last day of school before a long awaited holiday vacation, high school students reunite in their advisory groups. Each advisory group participated in varying community building activities.

Each year around Christmas time, Manchester Essex High School Organizes a food drive. This year it was led by Gardner Project Supervisor, James Wallimann.

Sophomores Observe Onion Roots With Microscope

Sophomore honors biology students recently completed a lab studying the stages of mitosis under the supervision of biology teacher Erica Everett. In the lab, pairs were given fragments of onion root to observe with compound light microscopes. Everett has been teaching students about mitosis with variations with this lab for about twenty years. Everett uses this particular lab because it gives students the ability to visualize and form a greater understanding of what cells look like while they are dividing, and how chromosomes and cells look during mitosis.

MERSD collects toys for Pathways

Manchester Essex Regional School District has their annual toy drive, collecting hundreds of toys for Pathways for Children. The toys are to be delivered Friday to the organization.

Making Mixed Media

Seventh graders focus on using different textures and patterns to create a piece of mixed media artwork. They will use a variety of materials, including exacto knives, scissors, glue, and paper to complete their projects.

Boys Basketball Start Season With Victory

 

On December 18th the boys varsity basketball team defeated Amesbury by fifty points, starting the season off with a huge victory.

Senior Class decorates cookies for fundraiser

Senior class officer Billy Burnham leads seniors in decorating gingerbread cookies during C block. At the end of the day these cookies were sold for $1.50 each and the money made benefited the senior class.

Senior citizens attend annual luncheon

Every year, the high school hosts a luncheon for senior citizens to come and enjoy holiday music. Student council members served food to the guests, while the SoundWaves and high school band performed.

Students of art teacher Marion Powers’s painting class create abstract versions of the flowers Powers’s son gave her for her birthday.

Students go mad for Mathopoly

As a break from their usual math unit, Matthew Schlegel’s sixth grade math class play Mathopoly, a game based off of the family favorite Monopoly. Typically, the game takes hours to play, so the students will play the game throughout the school year.
