Biology classes investigate isotonic, hypotonic and hypertonic solutions on onions

On Monday November 26th, biology teacher Maria Burgess worked with her students to discover how plant cells (such as onions) look in Isotonic, Hypotonic and Hypertonic Solutions. The students had the class to work on this lab in groups and record data they found.

Environmental Science class travels to Conomo Point

Students in Mr. Banister-Marx’s Environmental Science class took a short field trip to Conomo Point to take measurements on water salinity and plant species. Phragmites australis, or the Common Reed, is an invasive species that can only survive in areas with certain levels of salinity.

With students arriving from over 35 schools, and from as far as California, over 650 students participated in the Tim Averill Invitational Debate Tournament on October 27th at Manchester Essex Regional High School.

Dodgeball helps raise money to stop slavery

  The Manchester Essex Global Issues class put on a dodgeball tournament to raised money for their Somaly Man project on Wednesday November 14th.  Every year the Global Issues class takes on a project. Last year their project was H2O for Life, which helped build water wells for a town that was affected by earthquake in Haiti. Somaly Man helps stop human trafficking.
