ASR, AP Biology classes study roundworms at Harvard

As part of Harvard University’s Life Sciences Outreach Program, both of science teacher Maria Burgess’s Authentic Science Research classes (1 and 2) and science teacher Erica Everett’s AP Biology class traveled to Boston on March 16 to study a particular species of worm, Caenorhabditis elegans. The students first activated a reporter gene in a group of worms prepared by the Harvard staff and visually studied the results. After, the students were tasked with identifying and describing several different mutants of C. elegans.
