Journalism works on the latest edition of the Independent newspaper

Writers for the Independent newspaper work on their articles for the upcoming layout night. On layout night, the authors must organize their articles to prepare for the new edition of the newspaper.

Chemistry class conducts lab to create table salt

Chemistry students participate in a lab in order to better understand mass and mole relationships. The learning objectives include: calculating the number of mole of reactant and product in a simple chemical reaction and to investigate mass and mole relationships in reactants and products of a reaction.

Former faculty member informs students about Japan

 

Gayle Macklem, who just returned from her visit to Japan, came to present for International Week. She talked about the different celebrations and traditions that young Japanese children experience as part of their culture.

First preliminaries for Dramafest hosted at MERHS

 

March 3rd, 2012 the Manchester-Essex Drama team competed and hosted one of the 2012 Drama Fest Preliminary Round. At Manchester’s preliminary round, competed Marblehead, North Shore Technical School, Swampscott, Melrose, Rockport, and Ipswich. Out of the 7 teams that competed, 3 moved on: Manchester Essex, Rockport, and Ipswich. All 3 of these teams will go on to compete against 3 other teams who moved on at St. Johns Prep.

Students give blood to save lives

On Friday, March 16, the high school hosted its annual blood drive. Students and faculty from Manchester Essex donated 37 pints saving 112 lives. The blood donated will be used in hospitals to help save anyone who needs blood.

Drama cast presents “fIVES” to middle, high school

Nearly a week after performing at Dramafest preliminaries and being chosen to advance to semifinals, the drama cast and crew presented their five-part play to the entirety of the high school and middle school.

NAHS teams up with H20 to raise money

On March 14th, the National Art Honor Society came together to use their art skills to create cards. NAHS teamed up with H2O to create cards to sell to raise money for Haiti. NAHS members used the theme of water to create their cards because H20 is trying to raise enough money to provide Haiti with fresh water.

The sixth grade students presented their Greek God projects to their classmates. The students had to make up their own god and creation myth for their projects.
