Drama Festival Holds First Rehearsal

The 2012 Drama Festival members have their first rehearsal, in order to prepare for their performances in March. This year, the cast is doing a collection of 5 David Ives plays.

Students from the Interact club hold a bake sale to raise extra money for their class

On Thursday, December 22nd members of the Interact club held a bake sale to help raise money. Interact is a club based around completing community service hours and raising money for good causes. Interact does a number of different fundraisers to help multiple different programs, this time they held a bake sale. The bake sale, raised a small amount of money that will go to different charities and programs to help people in need.

Students act out The Great Gatsby, Jerry Springer style

A junior A.P. English class read The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. After finishing the book students were assigned a project by english teacher Debra Isensee to perform an episode of the Jerry Springer Show with the characters from the novel. The Jerry Springer Show is a talk show that invites in people to discuss their personal problems.  Students dressed up and acted as their characters.

DECA sponsors Highlighter Dance

DJ BeeJay Kendall from Total Control Entertainment brought a setup of black lights to create a wonderful highlighter atmosphere. Students were encouraged to wear bright clothing and use highlighters to enhance their wardrobe. DECA handed out Dew Tour merchandise, as they are promoting the well respected ski/snowboard competition. The DEW Tour will be held January 19-22 at Killington Mountain Resort.

JV boys basketball defeats North Reading in a close game

On January 9th Manchester took on North Reading at home. The boys’ JV basketball team defeated their opponents in a close game, ­­­­­37-49. Key players were sophomore Jeffrey Durkin and junior Josh Christopher scoring the majority of the team’s points.

High school students study for upcoming midterms

During the week of January 9th, students hit the books to study for the upcoming midterms.  Students studied topics from the beginning of the year until now, preparing for big exams in every class next week.  The exams will take place during the week of January 17th.

Alumni talk to junior class about preparing for college

Last year’s senior class members came back to talk to the junior class about the college experience.  They talked about applying to college and when juniors should start thinking about the application process, and how to choose the right college.

Changes in the policy of school dances

Principal James Lee and Assistant Principal Paul Murphy talked to all the high school students. Each class was spoken to in regards to the inappropriate dancing that has been occurring at recent dances. Dancing has become out of hand and students were informed of the new rules. There will no longer be a dance called “grinding” at any of the school dances.  If a student chooses to break this rule, they will be removed from the dance and their parents will be contacted.

DECA Attends District Competition

On January 5th, 2012, Dean Martino and his DECA students boarded a bus and traveled to Crowne Plaza North Shore Hotel in Danvers, MA for their district competition. Overall 39 DECA students qualified for SCDC (State Career Development Conference).

Chillax Club builds gingerbread houses

The Chillax club, run by Cathy Hunt, had a holiday party on Tuesday December 20th. They ordered pizza and had a variety of drinks available to the members. The students in the club decorated gingerbread houses together and then they were given to two members. Previously, the Chillax Club sold Down River ice cream to raise money so they could purchase the food for the holiday party. Everyone is welcome to attend the Chillax Club meetings held once a month.
